Osman Lab travels to Alabama

This summer researchers from the Osman and Tarpeh labs traveled to Alabama to conduct field work examining rural sanitation failures in Lowndes County. The team collected water quality samples from residents’ backyards and conducted 3 focus groups to learn about community members’ experiences. This is the first of several visits to the community with next steps including conducting a community-wide survey and broader water and soil sampling. In addition to field work, the team also visited the Legacy Museum in Montgomery and met with collaborators from the Center for Rural Enterprise and Environmental Justice in Huntsville.
