Water we up to? Two new papers by Aadhi make a splash!
Today, we are spotlighting two exciting papers that came out of the Osman Lab this summer - “Ripples of injustice: unraveling water equity challenges on a global scale” and “Quantitatively Incorporating Social Equity in Water Network Maintenance and Rehabilitation Decision-Making”. Osman Lab’s own Aadhityaa Mohanavelu was first author on both papers.
In his words: "The perspective article 'Ripples of Injustice: Unraveling Water Equity Challenges on a Global Scale' delves into the terminology and concepts of water equity, analyses scholarly literature, and examines the factors affecting its implementation on a global scale. Through evaluating existing definitions and considering the factors influencing its global implementation, the article proposes a unified definition for water equity: the provision of a proportional and equitable distribution of consistent quantity and quality of affordable water ensuring sustainable, fair, and inclusive access to all individuals absent of any discrimination.”, and “The article 'Quantitatively Incorporating Social Equity in Water Network Maintenance and Rehabilitation Decision-Making' proposes a modeling framework that quantitatively incorporates social equity into the M&R of water pipeline networks. The framework was demonstrated in a pipeline section in the city of Portland, showing that incorporating social equity can lead to better outcomes with minimal compromise in overall water supply performance and smaller performance disparities between the condition scores of assets in privileged and underprivileged neighborhoods.”
Congratulations to Aadhi on these trailblazing achievements! To all Osman Lab’s well-wishers, be sure to watch our Publications page for the latest works coming out of the lab.
