Revisiting Alabama

In Feb. 2024 members of the Osman Lab along with partners in the Tarpeh Lab continued their fieldwork in Lowndes County, Alabama working with communities facing widespread sanitation system failures. Dr. Osman along with lab members Brenda and Allisa distributed surveys to the community and conducted one-on-one interviews to better understand the frequency, severity, and impacts of failures in household sanitation systems. Collaborators collected water and soil samples from homes and recreational sites to monitor the existence of wastewater contaminants in the community. This project will continue with a third visit in the summer to share results with community members and begin examining potential solution pathways.
